Turns Out There is A Cure For the Summertime Blues

The Boys of Summer is in full swing. Baseball, from high school playoffs, to the road to the College World Series to MLB is firmly in the limelight…unless it’s one of the days that grace us with the NBA or NHL finals. Then we may get distracted for a couple of hours, but with the College Softball World Series wrapped up and football still a dozen Saturdays away, we’re talking baseball!

MLB Delivers a Rose Loaded With Thorns

How many different ways can Rob Manfred and the neanderthals that fun Major League Baseball piss off long-standing fans and alienate any prospective fans? So far, they have an endless supply of nonsense. Their latest decision, whether it had any influence from the president or not, was a giant kick in the ‘nards. In their infinite wisdom, Rob and The Clods have now said the lifetime ban for Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson (!) are erased. Their ‘reasoning’ (heavy quotation marks there), was that death should be the end of a lifetime ban. Joe Jackson died, shoeless, in 1951. It took them 74 years to realize the ban should have ended with his life? And don’t get me started with the way they treated Pete Rose.

The only half-way smart thing they did was wait until Rose’s body was at least cold in the ground, because they would have been absolutely roasted had they made this decision right after he passed. This way, it made the news cycle for no more than a week and was dead. Look, I saw the Rose documentary. He did himself no favors. He was brash, arrogant and lied whenever he got the chance. Sound like anybody we know? But if it was this easy for them to bow to pressure, why not at the very least tell him the ban would be lifted when he passed. That would have been minor solace but he deserved it. He didn’t deserve much else, but he deserved that. And, quite frankly, we deserved it. As fans, collectively, we thought he was getting a raw deal. The biggest problem was the open-endedness of the ban. And now we have proof, that nobody will get the ending they want or deserve. Nice job, asshats.
