As I sit at Truman’s Bar and Grill writing this up while also finishing up my sweet potato fries, The Masters are on, Norm is with me and life is good.
Well, some aspects of our sports life are better than others…
MIZZOU AND MARCH SADNESS
Both Mizzou basketball squads are looking to rebound in different ways. New women’s head coach Kellie Harper is building the team in her own image after several (good to great) years with Robin Pingeton at the helm. Ashton Judd, one of the best and most veteran members has entered the transfer portal as has several other players who averaged less than 10 minutes a game. As always though, other teams are seeing their players leave too, so Harper will be on the hunt.
Dennis Gates has already been active in the portal, and it has brought a Porter. Prodigal son Jevon (a pretty ironic title) is coming back to Columbia. He has a little connection already with incoming freshman Aaron Rowe, from their off and on years at Tolton High School. Other incoming transfers include guard Sebastian Mack from UCLA and forward (somehow not a meteorologist) Luke Northweather from Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Mizzou lost bigs Aiden Shaw and Josh Gray to the portal, along with wing Marcus Allen, who would have been my last guess of last year’s freshman to leave.
In March Madness, by the way, I did terrible. We did a posthumous Tom Bradley Show pool, and I finished third to last. And I consider myself lucky to be there. Congrats to Jason DePrima for winning, if you are reading this. And hell, even if you’re not. I’m a reasonable guy. I am proud of my oldest son Eli, not only for winning our family bracket but picking a steakhouse for his champions dinner (it’s a chain steakhouse, but baby steps).
